APU carpool options: decide before you match
A decision guide for APU peer ride matching: choose an independent travel plan first, check official Campus Connect information when relevant, and understand APRide's matching-only boundary.

APRide is a peer ride-match board, not a transport, driver, fare, payment, route, or map service. Use it only after you have decided your own travel plan; a match is an optional way to coordinate with another verified APU community member.
Use the decision order that keeps the boundary clear
First decide how you can independently complete your own journey. Next, if campus-shuttle information is relevant, check APU's current Campus Connect page. Only after that should you consider whether matching with a peer on an already compatible planned trip would help.
This order avoids treating a matching board as a transport provider. It also avoids assuming a current timetable, fare, route, capacity, or availability that is not stated on the official source you check.

Compare the roles, not promises
The right comparison is about responsibility. Official campus information is where you verify campus-shuttle details. Your own chosen option is the plan you arrange for yourself. APRide is only the place where eligible peers can discover a compatible planned trip.

What a peer match involves
A peer match starts with a planned trip between the app's fixed campus-area pickup points. If another verified APU user has a compatible plan, participants can choose whether to coordinate through their own communication.
APRide does not direct a driver, provide a vehicle, set a meeting route, or process money. Whether to share a ride and how to coordinate remain the participants' own decisions off-platform.

How do APU students actually get to campus?
Five options cover almost every trip: the university's Campus Connect shuttle, RapidKL rail plus the last mile, e-hailing, a peer carpool, and driving yourself. What separates them is not only the price — it is who publishes that price, and how far ahead you have to commit.

Every figure above that is not ours was checked against the operator's own page on 27 August 2026. RapidKL revised several pass prices on 1 January 2026 and left My50 at RM 50. Timetables, routes and availability change without notice — treat the official pages below as the current answer, not this one.
Which option should I choose?
Pick an option you can complete on your own first — shuttle, rail or e-hailing — and treat that as your floor. Then look for a peer already making the same trip, which lowers the cost and the waiting rather than replacing the plan. Doing it the other way round, waiting on a match and improvising when none appears, is the usual reason students arrive late.

What are my carpool options as an APU student?
Three, in practice: an informal arrangement with people you already know, a group chat where trips are shouted into a feed and lost, or a board where planned trips are posted between fixed pickup points and matched. APRide is the third — coordination afterwards happens on Microsoft Teams, not in the app.
Does APRide charge for a ride?
It handles no fares at all. The board itself is RM 0 on the free tier, which carries 2 active posts at a time; Premium is RM 9.90 per month or RM 99 per year and lifts that cap. Whatever riders decide to share for fuel is arranged between them, off the platform.
How is APRide different from Grab?
Grab is a transport service: it dispatches a driver, prices the trip and takes the payment. APRide does none of those. It only lets verified APU people discover that they are already making the same trip, which is why there are no drivers earning fares here — only classmates sharing rides they were taking anyway.
Is it safe to carpool with classmates I have not met?
It is a closed community, which is the whole design: every account is an APU school email, contact details are visible only to participants of the same ride, and passing someone's TP number or Teams contact outside a ride breaks the rules. No-shows and unsafe behaviour can restrict an account, and reports are reviewed by a person.
How far ahead can I post a ride?
Up to 7 days. Cancelling within 15 minutes of departure counts as a late cancel under the rules, and repeated late cancels or no-shows can restrict an account — so close a post as soon as you know you will not use it.
